Recovered Energy Laverton Project
Recovered Energy Laverton (REL) are constructing an advanced residual waste processing and energy recovery facility as an alternative disposal option to landfill for council putrescible and commercial waste. The REL residual waste gasification to energy facility will be located at 28 Alex Fraser Drive in Laverton North. REL has spent several years working extensively with Melbourne’s western and inner metropolitan communities to secure the requisite community and regulatory approvals needed to implement the facility.
Recovered Energy Laverton has secured ALL requisite regulatory approvals and licences to proceed with the construction of its waste gasification to energy facility at Laverton North. The REL facility has now been awarded an “existing operator” licence under the recently legislated Circular Economy and Other Matters Act 2022 giving REL the right to proceed to operations outside of the requirements to secure a tonnage allocation under the new Waste to Energy Cap brought into law under this new framework.
The REL facility is licenced and will be capable of processing up to 240,000 tonnes per annum of residual putrescible MSW and commercial waste.
What value will this project bring to Melbourne and its residents?
Save over 230,000t of residual waste going to landfill every year
Generate more than 20MW of electricity, enough to power >30,000 homes
Create over 400 full time jobs during construction and 30 high skill roles during operations
Reduce Victoria’s CO2e emissions by the equivalent of taking more than 100,000 cars off the road
